WHAT IS the top sports blog on the web? Every month the editors at online sports index Dozensports.com evaluate, test and compare sports blogs in a bid to answer this question. This month ended in a clash of the titans - Ballhype.com vs SBNation.com. Both sites are huge in the world of American sports online. Ballhype.com goes by the slogan- 'The best stories, the biggest fans', while SBNation.com says it is 'sports blogs for fans, by fans'. In the end, SBNation.com was narrowly beaten by Ballhype.com.So how were these blogs graded? Well, DozenSports.com ranks the online world separating the champs from the chumps in a number of ways. Firstly, the editors spend time using the site throughout the month, checking for updates, interesting posts and exciting news. Then DozenSports.com grades each blog by calculating the rate of blog posts, range of topics and sports, stats, design, navigation, community activity and overall content on the blog. After this, a total rank is given - SBNation climbed to the second spot with 8.4, but was pipped at the post by Ballhype, which received a whopping 9.2 out of 10. Other blogs featured in the top six included CNN's excellent World Sports Blog and Ron Raymond's Sports Betting Blog.

In other news this month, ESPN360. com finally lost its grip on the top spot in the Live Sports category to little-known site Live Basketball Channel. In the sports betting category, Sportsbook.com narrowly beat other sports betting sites such as TheGreek.com, but look out PartyBets.com was a major climber taking third spot. In the sports tickets category, both Ticko.com and StubHub.com fell down to innovative ticket and travel package site - SportsTraveler.net.
